For sushi that’s out of this world, you can’t miss the Tsukiji Market. It’s where you’ll find perfectly crafted sushi rice (arguably the most important part of nigiri) topped with buttery, melt-in-your-mouth fish. All at incredibly reasonable prices.

And since you’re celebrating a milestone birthday, you owe it to yourself to experience a multi-course omakase at Sawada.

A wonderful husband-and-wife team runs this intimate 6-seater, and the focus is entirely on savoring each piece of sushi as it’s handed to you by Sawada-san himself. No photos, just pure, unfiltered enjoyment.

For your Tokyo base, I highly recommend the The Tokyo Station Hotel. Not only is it connected to the train station (home to the famous Ramen Street!), but it also makes exploring the city’s neighborhoods a breeze with the super-efficient train system.

Aruba offers a vibrant mix of restaurants, nightlife, and bars, perfect for exploring and indulging.

Chamonix is home to some of the most stunning day hikes on the planet.

If you’re an outdoor enthusiast (and a fan of delicious cheese!), celebrate your 40th with a week in Chamonix, France.

Prepare to be blown away by incredible hikes and jaw-dropping views. Two of our favorites are the Lac Blanc trail, which rewards you with a stunning alpine lake at the end, and the Grand Balcon Nord.

After a day on the trails, treat yourself to some cheesy, gooey fondue at La Cremerie du Glacier. It’s the perfect way to refuel after all that hiking.

We stayed at an adorable, well-appointed Airbnb run by a Superhost.

But since you are celebrating a big birthday, I would recommend the centrally located Hôtel Mont-Blanc. This adorable boutique hotel offers beautiful modern rooms and easy access to everything Chamonix has to offer.

One of the best bike trails we’ve ever experienced is the 22 km Veloroute La Vie Des Vignes. It’s incredibly fun.

Start your adventure in Ljubljana, rent a car, and make your way to Goriska Brda (Slovenia’s answer to Tuscany) for some time in wine country.

For example, I am a local Virginian who found the perfect celebration spot just a short drive away at The Inn at Stinson Vineyards. This charming four-room B&B nestled in the Virginia countryside offered everything we needed for a memorable weekend.
