Ultimate Belize Itinerary: All the Highlights of Ambergris Caye in 6 Days

by | Last updated Aug 20, 2023 | Belize, Central America Itinerary

Ah, Belize. I truly fell in love with its laid-back vibe and DIY adventure attitude. I am specifically referring to Ambergris Caye, Belize’s largest island. Just a short flight from Belize City, this island is home to world-class snorkeling, golf carts, secret beaches, authentic local food, and friendly locals. Follow our 6 day Belize itinerary to discover everything it has to offer.

WHO WILL LIKE THIS BELIZE ITINERARY

  • Snorkeling & diving enthusiasts
  • DIY adventure lovers
\

BEST TIME TO VISIT BELIZE

  • Go during the dry season from late November to mid-April.
  • Avoid hurricane season from June – mid-November.
  • We traveled at the end of November during the Thanksgiving holiday. This time frame was considered the shoulder season, so hotel prices were cheaper. It was also right at the end of the rainy season and the beginning of the dry season.
  • We had a few overcast days but no rainouts. The snorkeling was fantastic.
\

ACCOMMODATIONS

  • Alaia Belize, Autograph Collection (5 nights)
Alaia Belize
\

AIRLINES

American Airlines

  • We had a layover in Miami both ways to Belize City (BZE). Total flight time from the east coast + layovers was about 7 hours.

Tropic Air

  • 15-minute baby plane ride from Belize City to San Pedro, Ambergris Caye.
\

CAR RENTAL & HOW TO GET AROUND

  • No cars. The way to get around is by golf cart! We rented one through our hotel. MK Golf Cart Rental is a popular alternative.
\

TOUR OPERATORS

  • Snorkeling tour for Hol Chan Marine Reserve (if staying in Amerbris Caye)
  • Snorkeling tour for Hol Chan Marine Reserve (if staying in Caye Caulker)
\

LUNCH/DINNER RESERVATIONS

  • None. All of the restaurants we chose did not require reservations.
\

WHAT I WOULD HAVE CHANGED

  • Our snorkeling experience in Hol Chan Marine Reserve was so amazing. I wish I would have done this experience TWICE. It was that good.

  • If we had more time, I would have considered adding on several days to explore Placencia or Hopkins, Belize. If you go during March-June around the full moon, you can actually snorkel with whale sharks! We had the chance to swim with whale sharks twice. It’s an experience not to be missed.
