Snorkeling at Felicite Island Seychelles [Reviewed + Rated]

by | Last updated Jun 15, 2025 | Seychelles, Best Snorkeling Africa

My husband and I are avid snorkelers. We’ve explored underwater spots all around the world. So, when we visited the Seychelles, we were eager to track down the top snorkeling locations. Felicite Island made the list, though it does require a boat to reach. Here’s what our snorkeling experience at Felicite Island was like (complete with maps and photos!).

Seychelles Snorkeling Rating System

Snorkeling is our thing, so I put together a snorkeling rating system a while back to help give a quick snapshot of what to expect at each spot.

That said, snorkeling conditions can vary a lot depending on the time of year, or even the time of day, and this is especially true in the Seychelles.

For context, we snorkeled in the Seychelles in early May. From what I’ve gathered, the best months for snorkeling here are April/May and October/November.

According to SeyVillas, April and November are the absolute best months thanks to the calm seas and incredible underwater visibility. Those months though can be quite hot, as the trade winds are absent during that time.

Please see the rating key below.

OVERALL SNORKEL RATING KEY

🤿 🤿 🤿 🤿 🤿   =   World-class snorkeling and worth traveling just for the snorkeling alone!

🤿 🤿 🤿 🤿   =   Incredible snorkeling and should be on your list of top things to do!

🤿 🤿 🤿   =   Decent snorkeling and worth the effort!

🤿 🤿   =   Worth consideration if you are running out of things to do!

🤿   =   Not worth it!

How to Get There

To reach this snorkeling spot, you’ll need a boat from either Praslin or La Digue.

There are several group tours that go to this site, such as Lizzy Boat Charter and Zico Boat Excursions from La Digue.

If you prefer a private, crowd-free experience, book Tranquility Boat Charter like we did. See our full review of this tour!

Felicite Island is also known for the ultra-luxurious Six Senses resort, where guests often arrive by helicopter. Thankfully, you don’t need a reservation to snorkel the reef! 😉

Snorkeling Map

The best snorkeling is along the western side of the island. Start near the rocks at the southern tip, swim past the beach, and finish around the rocky area at the northern end.

Tranquility Boat Charter does offer snorkeling gear, but I highly recommend bringing your own.

We invested in high-quality snorkeling equipment years ago and take it on all our snorkel trips.

Here are the masks and fins I have personally tested and use when we travel!

Entry

Entry is easy because your boat charter will drop you right where you need to be.

Put on your mask, head to the back of the boat by the ladder, sit down to slip on your fins, then scoot yourself off the edge and drop into the water.

Easy breezy.

Seychelles Fish Sightings

I absolutely love eagle rays.

We’ve snorkeled with them in several places, including the Reef Discovery Tour in Bora Bora, with Alex Lagoon Tours in Moorea, right off the beach in Angel City in Bonaire, Hol Chan Marine Reserve in Belize, and at the beautiful house reef at Le Meridien in the Maldives.

At Felicite Island, we spotted the smallest eagle ray I’ve ever seen. It was gliding over a deeper stretch of sandy ocean floor and had the cutest little upturned snout.

We also snorkeled with smallspotted darts for the first time. These curious fish had no sense of personal space and swam right alongside us. When they turned their bodies, their silvery spots would catch the light and sparkle.

Parrotfish are familiar favorites. We’ve seen them too many times to count, including some massive rainbow parrotfish that looked like baby mermaids in Boca Slagbaai in Bonaire.

Seychelles was no exception, with plenty of colorful parrotfish munching on the coral.

Other memorable sightings included a large school of convict surgeonfish (similar in size to the one we saw at the Sofitel reef in Moorea).

We also spotted threadfin butterflyfish, blue surgeonfish, scissortail sergeants, and one shy, pufferfish that kept its distance. Love those big puppy dog eyes.

Of course, I brought my favorite underwater camera to capture all the action!

Final Thoughts

Keep in mind that the snorkeling here won’t quite compare to world-class destinations like the Maldives, French Polynesia, or Indonesia.

That said, there are still some enjoyable spots to explore, and Felicite Island is one of them.

It’s definitely worth a visit, and booking Tranquility Boat Charter is a great way to experience the site. They’ll even take you to other cool sites like the Sister Islands and Anse Lazio!

And if you love snorkeling, don’t miss a visit to Anse Georgette!
