Snorkeling at Anse Georgette Seychelles [Reviewed + Rated]

by | Last updated Jul 27, 2025 | Best Snorkeling Africa, Seychelles

Hubby and I absolutely love snorkeling! On our recent adventure, we combined an incredible safari in Tanzania with relaxing beach days in the Seychelles. As we hopped between islands, our mission was simple: find the best snorkeling spots, chill with adorable tortoises, and sip on tasty local Takamaka rum. Anse Georgette often earns a spot among the world’s most stunning beaches, but how does the snorkeling stack up? Here’s everything we discovered about snorkeling at Anse Georgette, complete with plenty of photos and maps!

Seychelles Snorkeling Rating System

We’re enthusiastic snorkelers, so I’ve developed a straightforward rating system to quickly inform readers about what each location offers underwater.

Keep in mind that snorkeling conditions can vary significantly by season or even during a single day. This variability is particularly noticeable in the Seychelles due to changing weather and ocean conditions.

We explored the waters there in early May, one of the best times for snorkeling. My research indicates that April, May, October, and November typically provide optimal snorkeling experiences.

According to SeyVillas, April and November are especially notable for their calm seas and excellent visibility. However, these months can be quite warm because the trade winds are less active.

Please see my rating guide below.

OVERALL SNORKEL RATING KEY

Anse Georgette was recently ranked #30 on the 2025 World’s 50 Best Beaches list, and after our visit, I totally agree. It lives up to the hype!

When we visited in May, the water was comfortably warm with gentle waves perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The sand is incredibly soft, and those massive granite boulders on both ends make it even more stunning.

But getting there has a small catch. To access Anse Georgette, you need to drive up to Constance Lemuria, a luxury 5-star resort.

So yes, a rental car is a must if you’re visiting Praslin. And if you’re still deciding who to rent from, don’t miss my review of my favorite car rental company on the island.

There’s been mixed information about whether you still need to make a reservation through the hotel for access. Some travelers say it’s no longer required, but I couldn’t confirm that.

Here’s exactly what we did, and it worked out perfectly:

We stayed at Terrasse Sur Lazio, hands down my favorite place to stay on Praslin! It’s conveniently located next door to Constance Lemuria (only a 5-minute drive!), making beach access super easy.

We are foodie and wine travelers, and I heard Constance Lemuria has one of the most impressive wine collections. So we booked a delicious Creole lunch at one of their restaurants, The Nest, and then snorkeled after!

The hotel staff greeted us warmly at the gate. After parking near the entrance, we took a relaxed walk to the restaurant and sat down for an amazing 3-course Creole lunch.

We paired it with a fantastic bottle of Hemel-en-Aarde Valley Sauvignon Blanc from Trizanne Signature Wines, a thoughtful recommendation by the sommelier. It was exceptional!

We visited the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley years ago on a wine tour in the Cape Winelands and had such a wonderful time.

Plus, the restaurant’s romantic location by the rocks, overlooking the ocean, couldn’t have been better.

After lunch, we headed to Petite Anse Kerlan for some snorkeling and then made our way to Anse Georgette.

Be prepared for a short hike over a golf course. It’s not too tough, but it does have some ups and downs. Occasionally, the friendly staff might offer you a ride on a golf cart if they’re headed that way, but I wouldn’t rely on it.

We found the best snorkeling along the rocks on the left side of Anse Georgette (left side as you are facing the water).

But make sure to also check out the sandy middle area. You might be surprised by what you find there (more on that soon!).

You can also snorkel to the right near the rocks, but we stuck to the left.

If snorkeling is a big part of your vacations, I highly recommend investing in high-quality snorkeling gear. My husband and I have been snorkeling enthusiasts since 2007, and good equipment truly makes a huge difference.

If you need some gear suggestions, here are my personal favorite snorkel masks and travel-friendly snorkeling fins I use on all of our snorkations.

Also, keep in mind there are no facilities at Anse Georgette. Bring along a travel towel to dry off or sit on.

Here’s the one towel I swear by for all our snorkel trips.

Getting into the water here is incredibly easy.

The sand gently slopes into the ocean, and thankfully there aren’t any sea urchins or sudden drop-offs to worry about.

We found the waves very gentle in May, but remember, conditions can vary depending on the season.

Seychelles Fish Sightings

So, what can you expect underwater?

Right away, I had a memorable encounter. A friendly stingray swimming gracefully in shallow water. It startled me at first, so watch your step!

We’ve snorkeled alongside countless stingrays over the years from Haulover Bay North and Francis Bay in St. John to the house reefs at Outrigger and Le Meridien in the Maldives, Hol Chan Marine Reserve in Belize, and even Moorea.

But spotting these graceful creatures underwater still excites me every single time. Of course, I can’t resist snapping plenty of pictures with my favorite underwater camera!

After that exciting moment, we snorkeled along the rocky side on the left and were amazed by huge schools of convict surgeonfish and Pacific threadfins. Swimming through these schools and seeing them scatter and regroup was so much fun.

We also spotted:

  • Lined surgeonfish
  • Smallspotted darts

Another traveler nearby spotted a baby shark swimming along the shore, but by the time I jumped back in, it had vanished. Maybe you’ll have better luck!

Final Thoughts

Ok, so Seychelles isn’t the Maldives or Indonesia or Belize in terms of snorkeling, but there are still some snorkel sites worth exploring.

Anse Georgette is definitely one of them! It exceeded expectations. The snorkeling was surprisingly rewarding, and the beach alone is worth the trip.

It’s easily one of our top experiences in the Seychelles!
