We have traveled to some incredible foodie cities including Lima, Ho Chi Minh City, Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Paris, Florence, Cape Town, and of course Mexico City! Hubby and I are ultra-planners (yes, we plan vacations down to the hour to experience all the things!). I will walk you through my exact Mexico City itinerary that includes amazing foodie gems from street tacos to a 2-star Michelin restaurant. Wait there’s more! 😉 It also includes the best coffee shops, wine tastings, and some of the top cocktail bars in the world!

And if you are pairing Mexico City with Oaxaca, do not miss my ultimate Oaxaca foodie itinerary!

Best Time to Visit Mexico City

  • Everyone says March – May is the best time to visit because the weather is warm and there’s little rain. There are more crowds though except during Easter when a lot of locals leave town.
  • This is true, but we also experienced nice weather (low 70s) and little rain when we went at the end of November. You can see this is typical weather according to the U.S. News weather and precipitation chart. I enjoy these slightly brisk temps when we walk around a city. I hate being all sweaty and gross (unless I’m exercising) when you are doing touristy things. That’s why I avoid Europe during the mid summer. Love shoulder seasons! Remember the Day of the Dead is November 1st and 2nd, so expect lots of crowds during that time and plan accordingly.

  • We flew with American Airlines connecting through Charlotte. Total flight times from the east coast + layover was 8.5 hours.
  • We flew from Mexico City (MEX) to Oaxaca (OAX) with Aeromexico.  Flight time was 1 hr. 25 min.

    How to Get Around

    • There is no way I would drive in Mexico City.

    • Walk in the safe neighborhoods and Uber everywhere else. I’ve detailed all the neighborhoods I felt safe walking around in my blog post, Is Mexico City Safe?

    What I Would Have Changed

    • There were so many amazing restaurants, taco shops, and cocktail bars. I’m happy we got to experience so much in a short period of time, but we probably overdid it on the dining and cocktails. 🙃 I’d still do it again though!

    • I really wish I had tried to download and make the Ecobici app work before coming to Mexico City. I’m bummed we missed out on the Sunday biking. Next time though!
