4 Best Restaurants in Rangiroa According to a Foodie Traveler

by | Last updated Apr 1, 2025 | Rangiroa, Best Food French Polynesia

Alright, so I realize you are not booking a trip to Rangiroa for the food. You go to Rangiroa for incredible snorkeling, diving, and the stunning Blue Lagoon! But Rangiroa has some surprisingly delicious restaurants. My husband and I have been known to travel for foodie experiences from street tacos in Mexico City to fancy dining at Maido in Peru. Here are our top 4 restaurants in Rangiroa that are worth a visit.

Les Relais de Josephine has what I call the trifecta – great food, great ambiance, and great service. You can also stay in one of their seven bungalows.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Kia Ora Resort & Spa, which has a fantastic location. It was only a 20 minute walk or 10 minute bike ride to the restaurant.

Les Relais de Josephine has direct views of Tiputa Pass, where you can see dolphins leaping out of the water during tide changes. Dolphin watching is one of my favorite things to do in Rangiroa. Wonderful ambiance.

We speak very limited French, so we were super grateful the staff was willing to work with us in English. No reservations are needed for lunch.

Lunch offerings include lighter bites like paninis and quiches. They also serve 3-course dinners, but you will need a reservation.

I ordered the plateau de déjeuner (lunch platter) that had a little bit of everything including a quiche, toast and white fish, and a fresh salad. A glass of chilled Sauvignon Blanc was the perfect accompaniment.

My husband had the plat du jour (dish of the day), which was something we had not had before. He was served rilletes (slowly cooked fish in its own fat) and a super tasty red sauce. Very delicious dish!

2 lunch plates + 2 glasses of wine came to $70 USD. Great value especially considering you are on a remote island in the middle of nowhere.

02- Chez Rua

Chez Rua is a family-run food truck that offers some really delicious Polynesian street food. The service is incredibly friendly!

The location can’t be beat. Picture feet in the sand with the crashing ocean before you. If you time it right, you can watch the famous Tahitian sunsets from your table.

My husband and I split a delicious fish and chips along with a homemade Bao burger Hararu, complete with their signature secret sauce. Both were so fresh and flavorful!

We also tried one of their house-made juices, which was the perfect complement to the meal.

This little spot was absolutely worth the bike ride from Hotel Kia Ora!

Apologies for the dim bao burger photos—snapping pictures at night always presents a challenge.

03- Pizzeria Moanatea

Sometimes you just crave a gooey cheesy pizza especially when you are burning all those calories snorkeling in Rangiroa’s lagoon.

A solid dinner choice that we enjoyed was Pizzeria Moanatea. It’s run by a very nice Frenchman. English is limited so just make sure to look at the menu before you go, so you know what you want.

You can eat at the restaurant or get takeaway. A lot of the locals were lined up for take-out orders!

Someone posted the menu on Tridadvisor if you want to take a look at the menu first.

We ordered the La Royale, which was a thin crust pizza made with tomatoes, cheese, ham, bacon, mushrooms, olives, and a runny egg.

Yep, a runny egg! It’s kind of a French thing, and it’s delicious. After all, you are in French Polynesia!

Do not worry. If runny eggs are not your thing, there are plenty of other pizza options.

If you need a break from overpriced hotel food, Pizzeria Moanatea is a great option. And it’s walkable from Hotel Kia Ora.

By the way, if you love pizza and are going to Moorea, do not miss the exceptional Neopolitan pizza from Casa Vincenzo. It’s #3 on my list of best restaurants in Moorea. They cook their pizzas in a legit Italian pizza oven.

04- Blue Lagoon BBQ

Ok, so I realize my next recommendation is not an actual restaurant, but the food was so delicious I had to include it.

If you go to Rangiroa, you have to go to the Blue Lagoon.

If you go to the Blue Lagoon, make sure it is with Rangiroa Excursion.

On the tour, the staff at Rangiroa Excursion cooks up a scrumptious local BBQ lunch! My husband and I enjoyed an amazing meal of BBQ chicken, grilled fish, poisson cru, coconut rice, and coconut bread. Quite the feast!

Oh, and all this eating is done while watching cute little blacktip reef sharks swimming in the lagoon. Life is good.

Final Thoughts

Despite its remote location, Rangiroa offers up some solid dining options. Because the island is so flat, my husband and I biked or walked to most of these restaurants. If you are looking for a break from hotel food, I hope these recommendations are helpful!
