Best Hotel in La Digue for Couples: Our Le Nautique Waterfront Hotel Review

by | Last updated Jan 18, 2026 | Seychelles, Hotel Reviews Africa

My husband and I are pretty selective about where we stay. Like many of you, we work hard, so when we spend on a big trip, we want every part of it to feel worth it. Great value, great experience, no regrets. I’m saying this so you know where I’m coming from when I tell you about what I think is the best place to stay on the small, charming island of La Digue in the Seychelles.

Let me introduce you to Le Nautique Waterfront Luxury Hotel and walk you through why this is the one we’d book again in a heartbeat!

The Location + Arrival

How to get to La Digue in the Seychelles

How to get to La Digue in the Seychelles

Some of the best places take a little effort to get to, and Le Nautique Waterfront Hotel is one of them. It’s on La Digue, the smallest of Seychelles’ three main islands (the others are Mahe and Praslin).

We also stayed on Praslin and have a separate review of our favorite boutique hotel there, but La Digue quickly became our favorite.

The island’s low-key, bike-everywhere vibe was exactly what we were looking for.

Back home in the U.S., we live in a city and avoid driving whenever possible, so a destination where you can get around entirely by bike or on foot is our idea of perfection.

You can’t get to La Digue in one direct hop.

From Mahe, where the international airport is located, you’ll first fly or ferry to Praslin (I’ve compared both options here), then hop on a quick 20-minute ferry to La Digue.

After our early morning arrival in Mahe, we caught the ferry to Praslin, connected to La Digue, and by early afternoon were stepping off at the island’s tiny ferry terminal.

Waiting for us was a friendly Le Nautique staff member, big smile and all, ready to help with our bags.

We climbed into the hotel’s golf cart, passing cyclists and palm trees along the way, and in minutes were pulling up to the property.

The scene instantly reminded us of Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye in Belize … laid-back, colorful, and buzzing with island energy.

At the entrance, we were greeted by Natasha St Ange, the hotel’s director.

Natasha had already made a great impression before we arrived. I’d emailed her with questions about excursions and dinners, and her quick, thoughtful replies were more like concierge service at a 5-star resort.

She checked us in, gave us the lay of the land, and happily told us our room was ready. After 22+ hours of travel from the U.S., plus ferries, we were more than ready to drop our bags, change into swimsuits, and dive into island mode!

Le Nautique’s story makes it even more special. The hotel is still family-owned, with roots going back to Karl St Ange, the father and grandfather of the current family team.

Before becoming the Le Nautique we know today, the property was a coconut and vanilla plantation, then a small hotel called Cabanes des Anges.

That heritage shows in the warm, detail-focused hospitality you feel from the moment you arrive!

The Rooms

Four rooms at Terrasse sur Lazio on Praslin

Garden rooms at Le Nautique Waterfront Hotel in La Digue

Le Nautique has three room categories:

→   Garden (set within the property’s lush landscaping)

→   Seafront (with uninterrupted ocean views)

→   Deluxe Seafront (two stories with a separate lounge, sofa bed, and those same incredible views).

We went with a Seafront room and couldn’t have been happier!

The room felt instantly inviting, with its soft locally designed timber furnishings, muted coastal palette, and just enough nautical touches, like the rope floor lamp and coral-print cushions, to hint at its seaside location without overdoing it.

The king bed was generously sized and layered with crisp white sheets, perfectly stacked pillows, and a deep navy quilt that added a tailored touch.

Floor-to-ceiling glass doors opened onto our private deck, where we enjoyed coffee in the mornings while watching the light change over the water.

The amenities were just as thoughtful. A Nespresso machine with proper mugs, Twinings tea, and a neatly arranged tray made our morning routine feel special.

In the bathroom, the double vanity with vessel sinks, the roomy walk-in shower with its strong, hot rain shower, and the full-size Smith & Co. cedarwood-scented toiletries were all just right.

We also noticed the little extras such as neatly rolled towels, fresh hibiscus flowers, and a handwritten welcome note. All of these thoughtful touches reminded us that this is a family-run property where the details matter.

The room’s cooling setup was perfect: a quiet air-conditioning unit paired with a ceiling fan.

As a self-proclaimed sleep diva who even brings my white noise machine when I travel, I can say it absolutely passed my test. It kept the room comfortably cool all night, even when the Seychelles heat lingered long after the sun went down.

Breakfast

Delicious breakfast at Terrasse sur Lazio in Praslin

Breakfast at Le Nautique was something we actually planned our mornings around. We’d head down on the earlier side to snag one of the tables right by the water, where you could look straight out over the clear shallows.

More than once, we spotted a parrotfish gliding along the edge. It felt like our own little morning show.

We were there for three mornings, so we pretty much tried everything on the menu.

The menu covers both lighter and more indulgent starts. My café latte arrived in a tall glass, creamy and smooth, perfect with the bakers basket of pastries, pancakes, and local fritters.

The bircher muesli, topped with crisp apple slices and golden raisins, was cool and refreshing. Just right for the warm Seychelles mornings.

On the heartier side, my husband went for the Eggs Benedict: poached eggs on toasted brioche with a layer of ham and a generous pour of silky hollandaise.

I almost hate to admit this because I never eat fast food, but there’s one nostalgic exception I’ll make on a road trip: the McDonald’s hash brown. I’m a complete sucker for a good one.

My all-time favorite (besides McDonald’s) is still the one from HiFi Donuts in Portland, Maine (picture proof below in case you don’t believe me!). Anyway, I digress.

When I spotted hash brown on the Big Brekkie menu, there was no question I was ordering it, and it did not disappoint.

Crispy, hot, and exactly what I was hoping for. The rest of the “Big Brekkie” was just as satisfying, with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and grilled tomato rounding it out.

One morning I had an omelette with cheese, bacon, and tomato, which came out fluffy and full of flavor.

Everything was prepared simply but with care, and the service was easygoing without ever feeling slow. Breakfast here set such a nice tone for the day.

Dinner

Breakfast and dinner area at Le Nautique Waterfront Hotel in La Digue

Dinner at Le Nautique felt like a treat every single night. Not just because of the food, but the setting. We’d book a table right along the edge so we could watch the sunset melt into the horizon, the sky shifting through shades of gold and coral before giving way to inky blue.

Once night fell, soft lighting under the deck lit the water in a surreal shade of sapphire, and the silhouettes of small fishing boats bobbed just offshore.

It’s well known across La Digue that Le Nautique serves some of the best food on the island, and after two dinners here, we completely understand why.

Sorry, the food photos below don’t quite do it justice. Low light always makes it tricky, but trust me, the flavors were incredible!

Meal highlights:

→   Togarashi of Tuna: diced sashimi-grade tuna with cucumber avocado salsa, lemon mayo, and crispy wonton. This was so good I could have easily ordered several and called it dinner. Bright, fresh, and addictive.

→   Duo of Beef: a pairing of beef carpaccio and tartare with pomme frites, red pepper purée, capers, truffle oil, garlic chips, and hollandaise. A rich, indulgent starter that balanced flavor and texture beautifully.

→   Creole Coconut Chicken Curry: a traditional creole curry with rice, chutney, and papadum.

My personal favorite. Comforting, fragrant, and layered with flavor that had just enough heat to keep things interesting.

One night my husband and I decided to really celebrate our big wedding anniversary with a bottle of Nicolas Feuillatte Blanc de Blancs Collection Vintage 2012 Champagne.

We both love champagne, enough that we’ve even made a trip to France for multiple Champagne tours, so it felt like a perfect choice.

Dessert was simple but satisfying, and the coconut ice cream deserves a special mention. Creamy, refreshing, and exactly what you want after a warm tropical evening.

It wasn’t just dinner; it was the whole atmosphere (the glow of the water, the open-air setting, soft conversation) that made these seaside meals memorable.

Nichole Pro Tip: There’s an option that’s worth knowing about if you plan to dine at the hotel every night: a half-board upgrade for €45 per person, per night. It includes your choice of one starter, one main, and one dessert from the nightly à la carte dinner menu. We didn’t take advantage of it this trip because we had already booked dinner at Le Repaire for some Italian one evening, but it’s a solid value if you want to make the most of the hotel’s excellent kitchen.

Bar & Cocktails

Beautiful pool cliffside at Terrasse sur Lazio in Praslin Seychelles

The pool bar at Le Nautique quickly became our spot.

Two full pages of gins, plus a cocktail list that’s actually worth working your way through. We enjoyed some fantastic G&Ts poolside and at dinner.

I especially loved how many drinks used local ingredients, including several made with Takamaka rum.

Hubby and I have gotten into cocktail culture over the years. We’re the kind of people who sometimes plan trips around a great cocktail bar like Hanky Panky in Mexico City and Jigger & Pony in Singapore, so we notice when a menu is well-curated.

Rum is one of those spirits we always look for in tropical destinations, and we’ve made a habit of visiting distilleries everywhere from Barbados to Taha’a.

On this trip, we added Takamaka Rum Distillery to the list during an island tour with Nils on Mahe before our flight to Tanzania.

I still have a bottle of their Grankaz tucked away, waiting for the right night to open it.

The Amenities

Pool

Infinity pool at Le Nautique Waterfront Hotel in La Digue

After a day of snorkeling or pedaling around La Digue, we’d almost always end up back at the infinity pool at Le Nautique.

The view stretches straight across the channel to Praslin, and there’s always a light breeze off the water. It’s peaceful without feeling empty, with just enough space to relax without fighting for a lounger.

Cooling off in the pool at Le Nautique in La Digue

Some afternoons we’d cool off in the pool, others we’d just sink into a chair with a drink and watch the colors shift as the sun started to drop.

We’d claim a couple of loungers, take a dip to cool off, sip something cold, repeat.

By late afternoon, we’d timed it perfectly so our glasses were full just as the sun started sinking behind Praslin. This ritual was one of our favorite things to do in the Seychelles!

Ah, that golden light reflecting off the water was just incredible.

Hotel Bikes

Le Nautique Waterfront Hotel bikes

One of the perks of staying at Le Nautique is that you can rent bikes directly from the hotel for SCR100 ($7 USD) per day.

They’re in great shape, come with a front basket for tossing in your towel or snorkeling gear, and include a lock so you can secure the bike when you make a stop. It’s a small detail, but it makes exploring the island so much easier.

If you want something different (like an electric bike or tandem), the team can connect you with outside rental agencies.

At check-in, they also hand you a map of the island so you can plan your own routes and explore at your own pace.

I strongly recommend bringing your own snorkeling gear if you have it.

We’re experienced snorkelers and have tested multiple setups over the years, so the gear we travel with now is tried-and-true. This is the same kit we pack for all of our “snorkations.”

On La Digue, we used our gear for the island’s beaches and on a private charter with Captain Jacques, who took us to top snorkel spots and to see the famous Giant Tortoises on Curieuse Island.

The Rates

We visited in May, and while rates vary by season, they typically start around $375 USD/night and up. Breakfast is included.

Incredible value for what you get.

The Reasons for Choosing This Hotel

Views across to Praslin from Le Nautique in La Digue

Gorgeous views across to Praslin from Le Nautique in La Digue

\

#1- Prime Location with 5-Star Views

Le Nautique nails it on location.

You’re right on the waterfront with a clear view across to Praslin, but you’re also in the middle of all the best spots on La Digue.

Anse Severe, a gorgeous beach perfect for swimming or grabbing a drink at Bikini Bottom Bar, is only an 8-minute bike ride.

The iconic Anse Source d’Argent is about 15 minutes away on two wheels and is the site of the famous Crystal Water Kayaks Tour (which we did!) and loved.

And when you’re back at the hotel, the infinity pool and open-air restaurant give you front-row seats to some of the best sunsets on the island.

\

#2- Very Warm Hospitality

From check-in to check-out, the Le Nautique team makes you feel like they’re genuinely happy you’re there.

It’s that perfect mix, friendly and personal without hovering. They help with bike rentals or snorkeling tips, and are quick with honest advice on where to go and when.

It feels less like staying at a hotel and more like visiting friends who happen to run a seriously well-run boutique property.

\

#3- Incredible Food & Drink Selection

Even if you weren’t staying here, the restaurant would be worth the trip. Locals will tell you it’s some of the best food on the island.

Breakfasts are fresh and generous, dinners strike that sweet spot between creative and comforting, and the bar’s gin list could keep you busy for a while (plus some great cocktails if gin’s not your thing).

Add in fresh-caught seafood, a few well-chosen wines, and the occasional special like champagne for a celebration, and you’ve got a food and drink setup that’s hard to beat on La Digue.

Other Hotels We Considered

I like to share the other places we seriously considered before booking. It gives some context on how we landed on our final choice. We tend to gravitate toward small boutique hotels with character, modern amenities, and genuinely warm hospitality.

Here are the two that made the shortlist:

→   Le Repaire: Le Repaire was a serious contender for us: beachfront location, nice modern rooms, and a strong reputation for Italian food. It’s right in the heart of La Digue, so you can walk or bike pretty much anywhere.

We had dinner there one night and it lived up to the hype: a wood-fired pizza, fresh tagliatelle with Indian Ocean fish ragu, and a killer starter called Octopus Italian Style (local octopus sautéed with fresh tomatoes and basil, served with crispy potatoes).

Honestly, we could’ve gone back a second night just for that.

Delicata wood-fired pizza at Le Repaire in La Digue (mortadella, mozzarella, mascarpone cream, and pistachio)

Delicata wood-fired pizza at Le Repaire in La Digue (mortadella, mozzarella, mascarpone cream, and pistachio)

In the end, though, we went with La Nautique for its more intimate size and really warm hospitality, the incredible views from the seafront rooms, and the fresh, coastal aesthetic that just felt more “us” … even without its own beach.

→   Villa Charme de L’ile: This highly-rated self-catering property was also a strong contender for us thanks to its friendly service, relaxing fresh coastal aesthetic, spacious rooms, beautiful pool and garden, and great location. Breakfast is available for an extra fee.

On the flip side, there are no sea views, no bar service, and no on-site dinner option, but the price point is very attractive for what you get.

It actually reminded me a bit of the Boardwalk Boutique Hotel in Aruba, which we loved. We seriously considered it, but the draw of La Nautique’s waterfront setting and on-site restaurant eventually won us over.

Final Thoughts

If you’re like us and appreciate thoughtful design, genuinely warm hospitality, and food that’s every bit as memorable as the setting, Le Nautique Waterfront Hotel should be high on your list.

It’s not the spot for anyone chasing a private beach or sprawling resort amenities, and that’s exactly the charm.

What you get instead is an intimate, family-run boutique hotel with front-row ocean views, an inviting infinity pool, and a restaurant that locals happily recommend.

Our days fell into an easy rhythm: biking to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, then coming back to gin and tonics by the pool and service that consistently nailed the little details.

It’s that rare combination of being completely cared for while still feeling completely at home.

And if you’re still in the planning phase of your Seychelles trip, I’ve put together a 6-day itinerary that covers the must-see spots, best beaches, and our favorite foodie stops. It’s a great way to fit in the highlights while still leaving room for those slow, island-style afternoons.

I’m Nichole, the author of all the blog posts on Enriching Pursuits. Think of me as your geeky discerning travel friend who dives deep (Google Page 20, forums, travel groups deep!) to uncover the best ways to enjoy exceptional outdoor adventures and foodie experiences.

My husband and I are experienced snorkelers, day hikers, and casual cyclists who also love delicious street food, an incredible glass of wine, and the occasional Michelin-starred meal.

Balancing full-time careers, we cherish every second of our vacation days and love sharing tips to help you do the same. If this sounds like your kind of travel, subscribe below or drop me a note with any questions. I’d love to hear from you!
