Best Car Rental in Praslin, Seychelles: My Honest Capricorn Review

Praslin is stunning, but it’s not exactly compact.

Unlike La Digue (which is all about bicycles), Praslin’s beaches and hikes are spread out.

Famous spots like Anse Lazio and Anse Georgette are must-sees, but they aren’t easy to reach without your own wheels.

Taxis aren’t cheap and relying on buses limits your freedom to explore at your own pace.

If you’re like me, someone who lives and breathes TripAdvisor forums and travel groups, you know choosing a car rental is no small task.

After a lot of late-night scrolling and careful deliberation, Capricorn Car Rental won me over for the reasons I’ll review below.

Picking a rental car in a remote destination like Seychelles requires trust, and Capricorn stood out clearly from the competition. Here’s what set them apart:

No deposit was needed. I paid for the car when I arrived at the Praslin ferry terminal, which was super convenient. You can pay by cash or credit card (just note there’s a 3.5% fee for card payments). Insurance was included, with a max excess of €2,500 if you’re at fault in an accident.

We kicked off our 6-day Seychelles vacation by spending the first three nights biking and snorkeling around La Digue (no driving needed).

When we arrived in Praslin via the Cat Rose ferry, Meggie was already waiting at the pier with a warm smile and keys in hand. This was the first time I’ve ever been greeted personally by the car rental owner.

Talk about first-class service!

She thoroughly explained all the car’s features, gave us two bottles of water (lifesaving in that humid Seychelles heat!), and even included a cute Praslin magnet.

A little memento we still have on our fridge. A thoughtful touch I hadn’t experienced from any other car rental.

Our automatic Hyundai Grand i10 was immaculate, compact, practically brand-new, and handled Praslin’s famously steep hills with ease.

Bonus points: the trunk was covered, keeping our gear hidden from view.

Remember you’ll be driving on the left side. My husband’s constant reminders (“Stay left!) kept me on track.

Nichole Pro Tip: Follow Meggie’s advice and “hug the middle” when navigating the island’s roads. Some sections are narrow and have steep drop-offs, but take it slow and you’ll be fine.

Having our own car gave us total freedom to explore on our terms.

Our gorgeous Praslin vacation rental was perched on a steep hill near both Anse Georgette and Anse Lazio, two iconic beaches you absolutely shouldn’t miss.

We could actually hike to Anse Lazio right from the property, which was a huge bonus.

Without a car, staying at such a unique and special place just wouldn’t have been possible.

→   Anse Georgette

One morning, we drove through the 5-star resort, Constance Lemuria, to enjoy a delicious 3-course lunch at The Nest and access Anse Georgette.

We snorkeled with gentle stingrays and colorful fish. Definitely a highlight. Having a car meant we could head out early to enjoy the beaches before they got busy.

→   Fond Ferdinand

We also made the scenic drive to Fond Ferdinand to check out the famous Coco de Mer palms.

The hike through Fond Ferdinand was a fun workout and ended with sweeping ocean views. Highly recommend adding it to your list!

Dropping off the car was just as smooth as the pickup.

Even though we picked it up at the Praslin ferry, we were able to return it at the Praslin domestic airport. No extra charge.

We pulled in a bit early to the airport, but Capricorn’s friendly rep was already there waiting. He gave the car a quick once-over, and we were off to catch our flight back to Mahé for our island tour with Nils.
