We Tried the 2 Best Burgundy Wine Tours: Here’s Our Experience

by | Last updated Oct 25, 2025 | France, Best Wine Europe

My husband and I are pretty obsessed with wine travel. We’ve probably sampled more wines on tours than we’d like to admit from Mendoza to Madeira.

Over the years, we’ve learned the key to an unforgettable tasting experience is finding small-group tours led by passionate guides who highlight hidden-gem wineries.

We’re big Pinot Noir fans (okay, maybe a little too big) and have spent vacations chasing the best pours from Willamette Valley in Oregon to South Africa’s Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, Central Otago in New Zealand, and even Slovenia’s Vipava Valley.

But Burgundy? That’s been high on our couples bucket list (#26, if you’re curious) forever. We couldn’t wait to sip some of the world’s most celebrated Pinot Noirs straight from the source.

Here are our top 2 picks for Burgundy wine tours (from personal experience!) worth planning your trip around.

My Pick: Authentica Tours

We’re admittedly a little picky when it comes to wine tours.

Trust me when I say Authentica Tours seriously knows what they’re doing. Their nonstop five-star streak on TripAdvisor since 2012 speaks volumes, and after experiencing it firsthand, I get why.

What we appreciated most was how relaxed and approachable the whole experience felt—zero snobbery and lots of laughs.

You definitely don’t need to know the difference between Premier Cru and Grand Cru to have a good time.

They’ll tailor the experience whether you’re brand new or a seasoned wine geek.

By the way, the drinking-and-driving limit in France is just 0.05% (lower than the U.S. at 0.08%), so skip the stress and let these pros handle the driving.

Your only job is to enjoy the fantastic wines.

Our wine-filled day kicked off in the best way possible: standing right in the middle of a Burgundy vineyard as our guide explained why this region’s wines taste so darn good.

After getting our quick Wine 101 lesson, we headed over to Moillard-Grivot, a historic winery that’s been around since 1848 (which means they’re clearly doing something right).

Located in the famous Côte de Nuits area, known for its top-notch wines, this winery spoiled us with six delicious tastings including one incredible Grand Cru that almost made us forget it was only 11 am.

Then came the highlight of my entire day. A homemade three-course lunch at a beautiful wine estate, perfectly paired with incredible wines from Domaine Trapet Père et Fils.

Honestly, I would’ve happily unpacked my bags and stayed forever. It was that delicious.

It didn’t hurt that our host was one of the nicest people we’ve met in France, and he had us laughing the entire meal.

Our last tasting was at Domaine Quivy, a cozy, family-owned spot in a historic home.

We sampled four delightful wines and felt like guests at a friend’s country house (the kind you secretly wish was yours).

02- Best Bike Tour

Biking through the vineyards in Burgundy

My Pick: Bourgogne Evasion

We love wine, and we love biking. Putting those two together is pretty much our idea of a perfect day.

My husband and I rented e-bikes from Bourgogne Evasion and set off on an incredible self-guided bike + wine tour through some of the priciest vineyards on the planet (yes, we felt extra fancy).

Naturally, we squeezed in a few wine tastings along the way. Oh, how I LOVE France!

If handling logistics on vacation sounds like your personal nightmare, no worries. Bourgogne Evasion also has a guided bike-and-wine tour that’s worth every euro.

An expert guide leads the way, starting with the gorgeous Château de La Rochepot, followed by a tasting at Domaine Famille Picard.

After a leisurely lunch, you’ll enjoy even more tastings in Pommard, Volnay, or Meursault.

It’s the perfect way to sip and cycle without stressing about the details.

Nichole Pro Tip: Definitely go for the e-bikes. There are a few hills along the way, and trust me, you’ll appreciate that extra boost. Less sweating uphill means more energy for sipping wine later!

Final Thoughts

Pinot Noir might just be our favorite grape of all time.

We’ve traveled across the globe chasing down top-notch pours made from this notoriously finicky grape, as I mentioned earlier.

But nothing compares to sipping Pinot right here in Burgundy, its original home.

During our trip, we stayed in a charming boutique hotel in Pommard (highly recommend!). It’s the perfect home base for exploring Burgundy. If you’re planning your own adventure, definitely consider staying there.

If you prefer a hassle-free day, book a guided tour through Bourgogne Evasion or Authentica Tours.

Either way, you’re guaranteed a memorable day tasting some pretty spectacular wines.
