7 Best Boutique Hotels in Oaxaca Mexico for Couples

by | Last updated Jun 25, 2025 | Mexico, Hotel Reviews Mexico

Oaxaca is hot right now, and I totally get the hype. Travel + Leisure readers even voted it the best city in the world two years in a row, and after spending time there, I can see why. My husband and I recently visited and packed a ton into our trip. If you’re curious, I put together a list of the 19 best things we actually did in Oaxaca.

When we travel, we’re all about finding boutique hotels with charm, great design, good value, and a cozy vibe for couples, and Oaxaca did not disappoint. We stayed in one that we absolutely loved (find out which one below!), and I found a few others that I seriously bookmarked for next time. If you’re planning a trip, here’s our curated list of boutique hotels that’ll help make your Oaxaca getaway extra special.

01- Casa Antonieta

Casa Antonieta in Oaxaca

Casa Antonieta

With the motto “your home away from home,” you know you are in good hands.

Casa Antonieta has a peaceful, relaxed vibe with its inviting, light-filled courtyard framed by beautiful arches. You cannot help but feel comfortable, like staying at a friend’s house.

The 9 boutique rooms are tastefully decorated in soft neutrals with contemporary touches and handcrafted pieces like rugs made in Teotitlán del Valle.

REASONS TO LOVE:

→  Very friendly, attentive staff

→  Excellent location in the city center

→  Amazing coffee shop (Muss Cafe) on-site

→  Excellent cocktails (including mezcal-based) at the rooftop bar on-site

02- Casa Carmen Morelos

Community area at Casa Carmen Morelos

Casa Carmen Morelos

Location: Av Jose Maria Morelos 305, Col. Centro, Oaxaca, OAX, 68000

My little oasis.

You would never know it from the outside though. Ring the bell, walk through the corridor, and enter the peaceful sanctum at Casa Carmen Morelos.

The staff is incredibly kind, always greeting you with big smiles.

Oaxaca is known for its gorgeous textiles and artwork. The hotel has done a beautiful job showcasing Oaxaca in its four boutique rooms and throughout the property.

The rooms are decorated with brightly-colored rugs and beautiful neutral textiles for the bedding accents. Original artwork adorns the walls. A local Oaxacan artist has provided all the interesting statues in the community area.

Oh, and let me tell you about the breakfast (which is included in the room rate by the way!).

Order the chilaquiles with eggs, their house specialty. Yum!

REASONS TO LOVE:

→  Lovely, helpful staff

→  Exceptional breakfast included

→  Air conditioning

→  Reasonable laundry service (great for extended stays)

→  Next to Boulenc, the best bakery in Oaxaca

03- Hotel Casa Santo Origen

Hotel Casa Santo Origen

Hotel Casa Santo Origen

Location: Huajal 100, San Felipe del Agua, Oaxaca, OAX, 68026

For a swanky, dreamy stay about 15 minutes from the city center, check out Hotel Casa Santo Origen.

The property is gorgeous with unique architecture and lush landscaping. It’s one of the few properties that has a pool, which is great for cooling off from the hot Oaxacan sun.

The spacious 8 boutique rooms are very tastefully decorated with exposed wooden beam ceilings, local art, gorgeous textiles, and pops of bold primary colors.

REASONS TO LOVE:

→  Fantastic heated saltwater pool

→  Tranquil, peaceful location

→  Warm hospitality from the hotel staff

→  White glove service

→  Air conditioning

04- El Callejón Hotel Boutique

El Callejón Hotel Boutique

El Callejón Hotel Boutique

Location: Callejón Morelos 103, Barrio de Xochimilco, Oaxaca, OAX, 68040

The charming El Callejón Hotel Boutique showcases classic adobe walls in its traditional architecture, harmoniously paired with a contemporary interior design.

The 12 rooms are spread across four towers and have large floor-to-ceiling windows allowing lots of natural flight. Each room has beautiful Oaxacan art and textiles with little pops of color.

Some rooms have a terrace, balcony, or kitchenette.

REASONS TO LOVE:

→  Great breakfast included

→  Beautiful courtyard

→  Very kind and friendly staff

→  Air conditioning

05- Casa Silencio

Casa Silencio in Oaxaca

Casa Silencio

Location: Xaaga, San Pablo Villa de Mitla, Oax., 70430

I wish I could have found a way to include this stunning boutique hotel in our itinerary.

Ideally, when we come back to Oaxaca, I would stay 3-4 nights in the city center and finish the trip with 2 relaxing nights at Casa Silencio.

The hotel is a little over an hour from Oaxaca City and is a destination in itself. It’s located on a working distillery, Mezcal El Silencio, so you know your stay is going to include some of the best mezcal. After all, you are in Oaxaca!

The 6 exclusive rooms are like works of art decorated with burnt wood furnishings, leather furniture, gorgeous handmade Oaxacan rugs, and copper lamps. The craftsmanship is exquisite.

REASONS TO LOVE:

→  Mesmerizing location surrounded by nature

→  Guided production tour of the mezcal distillery (included!)

→  Mezcal tasting (included!)

→  Breakfast (included!)

→  Lunch (included!)

→  Multi-course Oaxacan-inspired sunset dinner in a beautiful indoor-outdoor setting + drinks (included!)

→  Pool

→  Very attentive staff

→  About 35 minutes from one of Oaxaca’s unique attractions, Hierve el Agua!

06- Grana B&B

Master Suite at Grana B&B in Oaxaca

Grana B&B

Location: Labastida 118, Colonia Centro, Oax, 68000

Another fabulous property is the eclectic bed-and-breakfast, Grana B&B. It was started by three Mexican friends.

The 14 air-conditioned rooms in this gorgeous 18th-century property blend old Mexican architecture and contemporary style. Local artwork and pottery are seen throughout.

It reminds me a little bit of my favorite hotel in Mexico City, Casa Izeba.

There are two beautiful shared spaces among the guests- the inner tranquil courtyard and the rooftop with a view.

A hearty Oaxacan breakfast and local pastries are included and served at a communal table.

And you cannot beat the location, which is a block from the iconic Santo Domingo church and my favorite restaurant, Los Danzantes (which just got a Michelin star)!

REASONS TO LOVE:

→  Location! Location! Location!

→  Old world character with modern touches

→  Delicious local breakfast

→  Warm, attentive staff

→  Air conditioning

→  Laundry Service

07- Pug Seal Oaxaca

Pug Seal Oaxaca

Pug Seal Oaxaca

Location: Calz. Porfirio Díaz 212, Colonia Centro, Oaxaca, OAX, 68000

Architect Rafael Uriegas and two artists, Sabino Guisú and Manuel Lozano, joined forces to design one of the most unique boutique hotels, Pug Seal Oaxaca. They drew inspiration from the Zapotec culture and the Mediterranean.

The 20 spacious Art Deco-style rooms have marble floors, patinated walls, and little pops of gold furniture. Some have balconies.

The highlight of the artsy property is the beautiful murals adorning the walls of the courtyard.

REASONS TO LOVE:

→  Amazing gourmet breakfast

→  Excellent location in the city center

→  Honesty Bar

→  Air conditioning
