Things to Do in Bali for Couples: My 7 Favorite Experiences

by | Last updated Jun 11, 2025 | Bali

My husband and I have been together a long time (26 years!), and we’re always on the hunt for exceptional places to explore as a couple. Bali definitely delivered. It has that romantic energy that just makes everything feel a little more special. Sure, you can visit ornate temples and snap a photo on one of those famous Bali swings, but there’s so much more to experience beyond the Instagram shots. From cooking some delicious local dishes to biking through peaceful rice paddies, we found some pretty unforgettable moments. Here are 7 of our favorite couple activities from our 11-day Bali adventure.

01- Bike through the Balinese Countryside

Relaxing bike tour with Love Bali Bike Tours

Relaxing bike tour with Kadek through rice fields

My husband and I have a running theme in our travels.

We love amazing food and wine, and we also enjoy incorporating the great outdoors (snorkel, bike, hike) to burn off those calories.

A fantastic outdoor activity we enjoyed together was a cycling tour with Love Bali Bike Tours through local villages and rice fields in Kintamani, north of Ubud.

This bike ride was incredible!

It does require a little dexterity on a bike because some of the rice fields were narrow, and one section was briefly on a road with cars.

But, wow! The scenery was beautiful! At times, I had a hard time paying attention in front of me because all I wanted to do was look around.

Our guide Kadek expertly navigated us around sharing commentary on local Balinese life along the way.

We also stopped by the famous Tegalalang Rice Terrace (a famous UNESCO World Heritage site), tried luwak coffee, had a lovely breakfast with a view of Mt. Batur, and enjoyed a delicious local lunch at the end.

02- Stay in a Private Villa with Pool

Snorkeling with a large school of humpback red snapper at the Aquarium in Rangiroa

Private villa with infinity pool at Munduk Moding Plantation in Bali

Everyone goes to the beaches, but our favorite area is actually the mountains in North Bali.

North Bali is peaceful, relaxing, romantic, and the scenery is gorgeous!

There’s one really special place to stay, where I can guarantee your jaw will drop because of the incredible views and cloud-skimming infinity pool … Munduk Moding Plantation (MMP).

MMP is located on a coffee plantation, so you’re guaranteed to have a great latte in the morning. The resort is run by a 100% Balinese team whose mission is to offer EXCEPTIONAL customer service.

This property was one of our favorite Bali boutique hotels!

The hubby and I splurged and booked a private villa with an incredible infinity pool. We had our own personal butlers (love Leo and Purna!), with whom we conveniently communicated all of our needs through WhatsApp (make sure to get a Bali eSIM!).

Prefer to enjoy breakfast in bed? No problem.

Want to have the best seat in the house at dinner? No problem.

Want to do a deep dive coffee tour to learn more about the various methods of processing coffee? No problem.

We LOVED our stay and enjoyed our relaxing mornings sipping on coffee from the plantation and our epic evenings watching the sunset and enjoying a cocktail.

03- Hike to a Beautiful Waterfall

Bali is blessed with many waterfalls. Too many waterfalls to count.

Some of the best waterfalls are located in North Bali, and one of my favorites is Banyumala Twin Waterfalls.

My husband and I love waterfalls. Some of our favorites include Seljalandsfoss (#3 on our favorite things to do in Iceland), Uluwehi Waterfalls in Kauai, Kozjak in Slovenia, and Multnomah Falls in Oregon.

Banyumala is right up there on that favorites list!

It requires a beautiful 20-minute trek. Once you reach the end of the trail, you will be rewarded with a beautiful twin waterfall cascading over a rock cliff.

And unlike some waterfalls in Bali, you can actually swim in it!

Do not miss this waterfall. If you don’t feel like driving the crazy roads in Bali (which we didn’t), I highly recommend our private driver Made to show you this magical place.

04- Swim with Majestic Manta Rays

If you read any of my blog posts, you’ll quickly see my husband and I search out some of the best snorkeling destinations in the world.

Our favorites have been Belize, French Polynesia, and the Maldives.

So when I heard you can snorkel with MULTIPLE manta rays almost year-round a short boat ride from Bali, we knew we had to make this happen.

My husband and I are a little picky when choosing a snorkeling tour.

We did the big tour groups at the beginning of our travel days and hated it. I prefer to not have fins in my face and be bumped into every 5 seconds.

We chose Indo Compass Bali and couldn’t have been happier. If you get a guide named Vino, you are in for a real treat. His energy and humor is infectious.

The hubby and I have had a few manta ray experiences including the Big Island (Hawaii) and Bora Bora.

What made this manta ray encounter unique was that we saw numerous manta rays in shallow water. If you are a snorkeler, you know how important depth is for your overall experience.

The manta rays just kept on coming.

Everywhere you look, there was a manta ray. It was incredible. I could have spent all day just hanging out there. Bring your GoPro (my favorite waterproof camera) for some amazing close-up footage!

One thing to know is the water can be choppy, so you really should know how to snorkel if you book this tour.

Also, safety always comes first and the tour company will not go if the ocean conditions are not ideal.

If you want to know more, do not miss my detailed review below!

05- Learn to Cook Classic Indonesian Dishes

Snorkeling in the Tiputa Pass in Rangiroa

Making nasi goreng at The Omahneka Warung Cooking Class

We love booking cooking classes when we travel.

Some of our favorites were making empanadas in Argentina, mole and homemade tortillas in Oaxaca, homemade pasta in Florence, croissants in Paris, and pho soup in Vietnam.

Another super fun culinary experience is with Ketut at The Omahneka Cooking Class.

Full disclosure.

I am horrible at cooking, but I love eating.

Luckily, my husband loves to cook, and he’s really good at it. So every time we do these cooking classes together, the chefs always love my husband but are always kind to me and give me encouragement. 🙂

Ketut was awesome and had a very well-timed and structured cooking class. He only does small group classes. Luckily, on the day we booked, it was only us!

So, basically we had a private class.

We learned to make SO many dishes like Bumbu Bali (spice mix), nasi goreng (fried rice, you’ll eat a lot of this in Bali!), soto ayam (chicken noodle soup), sate ayam (chicken sate with peanut sauce), tempeh manis (sweet crispy tempeh), and dadar gulung (rolled sweet coconut pancake).

I think we could have fed an army.

Our meal was probably the best we had in Bali! One of the surprises was the tempeh. I thought I didn’t like tempeh, but after we made it with Ketut it’s now a favorite!

If you love to cook (even if you are not good at it like me) and you love to eat delicious local food, do not miss my full review on Ketut’s cooking class.

06- Sip on a Craft Cocktail at Night Rooster

We love a well-crafted, balanced cocktail.

Our favorite cocktail city in the world is Mexico City, but we always like to explore the cocktail culture in all the cities we visit.

If you know where to look in Bali, you will be blown away by the innovative cocktails.

One cocktail bar not to miss is the Night Rooster in Ubud! This bar has speakeasy vibes with comfortable plush spread-out couches to allow for easy, comfortable conversation.

I think we may have had all the drinks on the menu. Ok, maybe not all of them, but we did try quite a few.

They use local ingredients to tell a story.

Our favorites included the Moonbeam Lover (sandat flower infused arak, bourbon whisky, marigold leaves vermouth, calamansi cordial, and kampung egg white) and the Kiss of Death (mezcal, passionfruit, chili tincture, and passion fruit jelly).

Super fun date night!

07- Relax and Get a Bamboo Massage

Bamboo massage at Munduk Moding Plantation in Bali

Bamboo massage at Munduk Moding Plantation in Bali

One of the things I love about Asia is the incredibly affordable massages.

My first massage was in Thailand in 2013, and it was only $5 USD for 60 minutes!

Yes, 60 minutes!!! Ok, so the massages are not that cheap now but are still very affordable and offer exceptional value.

One of the best places we experienced a massage was at Munduk Moding Plantation.

I have had a lot of different types of massages over the years (Thai, in-water massage, lomi lomi, four hands massage, and hot stone), but this was my first bamboo massage.

And it was incredibly relaxing!

Heated bamboo sticks are used in addition to pressure and kneading techniques. You will feel like jelly afterward.

Ask for Yassy. She is amazing and will make sure she’s using the right amount of pressure for your comfort.

$45 USD for 90 minutes well spent.

Final Thoughts

My husband and I love to discover new experiences we can enjoy together. Bali has plenty to offer and really exceeded our expectations. If you want to enjoy the peaceful, romantic side of Bali, I strongly recommend staying in the north. Your stress will melt away, and you’ll wish you had more days!
