3 Best Boutique Hotels in Bali for Couples (Tried & Tested!)

by | Last updated Oct 3, 2025 | Bali, Hotel Reviews Asia

If you’re planning a getaway to Bali and want more than just a cookie-cutter resort, you’ve come to the right place. As someone who’s incredibly picky about where I stay (think only Booking.com ratings 9.0+, stunning aesthetics, and personalized service), I’ve done the legwork for you. During our 11-day stay in Bali, my husband and I tested the pillows, sipped the cocktails, and soaked in the views to bring you the 3 best boutique hotels in Bali for couples.

So, you’re getting the inside scoop from someone who’s actually been there, done that, and ordered the room service. Each boutique hotel offers something unique, from jaw-dropping infinity pools to private butlers who somehow know when you need another cookie.

01- Munduk Moding Plantation (Splurge)

Second pool at Munduk Moding Plantation Nature Resort in Bali

Why I Loved It:

✔️   The Instagram-famous infinity pool that seems to merge with the sky

✔️   Personalized butler service that anticipates your every need

✔️   Immersive coffee experiences on a working plantation

Tucked away in the misty hills of North Bali, Munduk Moding Plantation Nature Resort feels like you’re floating above the clouds.

As soon as we arrived, I knew we were in for something special. The cool mountain air was a welcome respite from Bali’s coastal heat, and the views … Wow!

It’s the kind of view that makes you pause and just… breathe. Bring on what I like to call therapeutic “tree air.”

The infinity pool here is Instagram-famous for a reason, but what really made our stay unforgettable was the personalized service.

The staff here is next level.

Our private butlers, Leo and Purna, made sure we always had the best seats for dinner and surprised us with tea and cookies during afternoon tea time. They were basically mind readers. It’s these thoughtful touches that made our stay unforgettable.

We were glad we had WhatsApp on our phone because that is how we communicated with our rockstar staff. I downloaded an Airalo eSIM (full review here!) when I landed at the airport, so we were always connected.

Yes, the resort is a splurge but totally worth it.

The property was designed by Balinese architects, which included all these exquisite local touches like Merbau parquet flooring and  Sulawesi cream marble. I would describe the vibe as being intimate without being too small.

We stayed in a villa with its own private pool and butler service, and honestly, I’d spend the extra money again in a heartbeat. Worth it!

Learning to make latte art at Munduk Moding Plantation Nature Resort in Bali

Practicing our latte art with Oka at Munduk Moding Nature Plantation Resort

We also dove into the coffee culture here (literally, it’s a working coffee plantation).

One of the highlights of our stay was the complimentary coffee plantation tour. We learned all about the harvesting process, and if you’re a coffee nerd like my husband and I, you’ll love it.

We also took a barista class with Oka, who taught us how to make exotic latte art (let’s just say I’ll leave that to the pros, but it was fun!).

My latte art looked more like abstract expressionism with little blobs that were supposed to be a heart while Oka effortlessly created cute monkeys.

But that’s part of the experience. You’re here to learn, laugh, and not take yourself too seriously.

The on-site restaurant, Warung Bongkot, serves up delicious local dishes, the kind that makes you want to lick the plate clean if no one is looking.

There are also plenty of fun outdoor activities to do together like hiking to gorgeous waterfalls and walking around a floating temple. We hired a private driver, the amazing Made, who showed us all the top sights!

See my super detailed, TA on steroids hotel review if you want to know more.

Things to Consider:

✔️   The resort is pretty remote, so if you’re looking for nightlife or easy beach access, this might not be your vibe. But this place delivers if you’re after serenity, stunning views, and outdoor adventure.

Nichole Pro Tip:

✔️   The mountain location means cooler temperatures, especially in the evenings. Pack a light sweater!

✔️   Book a room with a private pool, so you can also get the amazing butler service!

Cost & Traveler Ratings:

💰   Rooms start around $350 per night

⭐️   Booking.com rating: 9.6/10

⭐️   Expedia rating: 9.8/10

02- Uma Kalai (Mid-Range)

Pool time at Uma Kalai in Ubud

Why I Loved It:

✔️   Breathtaking views of emerald rice terraces from your private deck

✔️   Intimate, personalized service that makes you feel like family

✔️   A perfect blend of seclusion and accessibility to Ubud’s attractions

Nestled just outside the bustling heart of Ubud, Uma Kalai is like stepping into a serene, private oasis with flower-framing walkways and Koi ponds.

It made me feel like I’d stumbled upon Bali’s best-kept secret.

Fun fact.

This place was originally built as a private estate for the former Yahoo CEO. The attention to detail shows in every corner of the property. With just six suites, it feels intimate and exclusive without being stuffy.

Jala Room at Uma Kalai in Bali

Our room: Jala (Water) Room at Uma Kalai in Bali

We stayed in the Jala (Water) room, and it was everything we hoped for and more.

The open, airy space made us feel connected to the lush greenery around us, and our private deck overlooking the rice fields and pool was the perfect spot for morning coffee or evening wine.

It’s peaceful, quiet, and feels worlds away from the Ubud crowds, yet it’s only a short drive to all the action if you want to dive into the town’s foodie scene or art markets.

The property made an excellent base for our epic bike tour through the Balinese countryside and for our super fun cooking class with Ketut.

These activities were one of our favorite experiences to do as couples!

A special shoutout to Dicky, one of the incredible staff members.

He was genuinely one of the kindest people we’ve ever met, always ready with a warm smile and helpful tips that made our stay amazing.

It’s that kind of personalized service that makes Uma Kalai stand out from the rest.

See my very detailed hotel review for more photos and insights.

Things to Consider:

✔️   While it’s a short distance from Ubud, you’ll need to arrange transport if you’re planning to explore frequently. We used Grab (Asia’s Uber). But honestly, you might not want to leave!

Nichole Pro Tip:

✔️   Request the Jala Room for the best views. And don’t hesitate to ask Dicky for local recommendations. He knows all the hidden gems in Ubud!

Cost & Traveler Ratings:

💰   Rooms start around $280 per night.

⭐️   Booking.com rating: 9.8/10

⭐️   Expedia rating: 10/10

03- Karmagali Boutique Suites (Value)

Enjoying the pool at Karmagali Suites in Sanur Bali

Why I Loved It:

✔️   Intimate setting with only 7 suites, perfect for couples

✔️   Exquisite breakfasts

✔️   Prime location near Sanur’s picturesque boardwalk

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly boutique stay that doesn’t skimp on charm, Karmagali Boutique Suites in Sanur is your happy place. This adults-only gem offers just 6 suites, creating a peaceful, intimate vibe that’s perfect for couples.

The aesthetics? Gorgeous. Think tropical chic with just the right amount of Balinese flair.

The staff here have mastered the art of being attentive without being intrusive, a delicate balance that many hotels struggle to achieve.

The breakfasts? Fresh, super flavorful, and served with a smile.

It’s the little touches that make this place feel special, like the personalized recommendations for local eats or the extra care taken to make sure our stay was perfect.

For example, they knew we were going to do a very early snorkeling tour to Nusa Penida, and they dropped off a delicious takeaway breakfast before we headed out.

We loved how peaceful it was, even though it was just a short walk down to Sanur’s busy boardwalk.

You get the best of both worlds: a tranquil retreat with easy access to beachside cafes and local shops along Sanur’s boardwalk. It’s a quieter, more laid-back part of Bali, perfect if you’re looking to unwind without the hustle and bustle.

Things to Consider:

✔️   If you’re looking for vibrant nightlife, Sanur is a bit more laid-back compared to areas like Seminyak or Canggu. But for us, the peaceful vibe was exactly what we wanted.

✔️   Also, Karmagali doesn’t have the sprawling grounds or ocean views you might find at bigger Sanur resorts. But for the price and the personalized experience, it’s hard to beat.

Nichole Pro Tip:

✔️   The traffic in Bali is crazy. Stay in Sanur at least the night before you have to head out for your international flight. Then you’re only 25 minutes from the airport.

Cost & Traveler Ratings:

💰   Rooms start around $150/night. Incredible value.

⭐️   Booking.com rating: 9.1/10

⭐️   Expedia rating: 9.6/10
