The Location + Arrival
Église Saint-Pierre et Sainte-Agnès Church in Pommard, France
Most travelers seem to base themselves in either Dijon or Beaune. Both offer plenty of activities to keep you busy.
I gravitate towards small towns with lots of historic charm and walkability. Beaune and its surrounding area fit that bill. Plus, it’s very close to wine country!
We ultimately selected the charming town of Pommard as our home for 3 wonderful nights, which is a quick 9-minute car ride from Beaune.
Burgundy was just one stop along our 10-day road trip in France. I strongly advise renting a car!
We started in Paris, took the train to the Champagne region, spent several nights, and then rented a car through Sixt to make the 3.5-hour drive down to Burgundy.
Pommard is a small town, so you’ll miss it if you blink.
But it’s loaded with charm. The Église Saint-Pierre et Sainte-Agnès Church anchors the small town with wineries and restaurants lining the perimeter.
La Maison de Pommard couldn’t be in a better location. It’s right in the heart of the town. There was plenty of parking. We pulled in and rang the bell at the entrance.
Let the winecation begin!
The First Three Impressions
1. Historic stone structure but with modern comforts
2. Light filled, open, and inviting garden
3. Calming ambiance with its neutral palette and natural elements
The Rooms
Inviting living area at La Maison de Pommard
Isabelle, the owner of La Maison de Pommard, is a winemaker’s daughter who has lovingly renovated the property into a charming boutique hotel.
As we entered the historic building, we were greeted by a large open living area with cushy couches and an open floor plan that immediately led our eye to the beautiful garden out back.
Staircase up to the second floor
There are 5 rooms spread out over two floors. We chose Room 1985, which had all the features of a cozy French countryside getaway we were looking for!
We were ushered up the open staircase (this boutique hotel is definitely geared towards adults only!) to our generous-sized room.
Room 1985 at La Maison de Pommard
I love the historic features that were showcased including the natural stone walls and exposed wooden beams. The neutral color palette offered a soothing ambiance.
Sitting area in Room 1985
The suite offered a little sitting room with a comfortable leather chair to snuggle up and read a book.
Great view overlooking the garden from Room 1985
Bathroom in Room 1985
The bathroom was a little dark due to the grey concrete but offered plenty of room for two people to maneuver.
The towels were plush, and we were provided high-quality Aesop bathing products. The shower offered plenty of hot water (which is always a concern in older buildings, but no problems here).
The Food & Drink
BREAKFAST
Breakfast area at La Maison de Pommard
Breakfast is served in the dining area that looks out into the garden. I love the floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights that allow the natural sunlight to flood the room.
Breakfast options: French or English
Fresh croissant
Local French cheese and charcuterie
Yogurt and granola
The hotel serves an exceptional breakfast from 8 – 10:30 am by the sweetest cook. The night before you select which style of breakfast you want: French or English.
We enjoyed freshly baked croissants, yogurt with granola, local French cheeses and meat, and fresh bread with homemade jam.
Farm eggs made to order
In addition to pastries, yogurt, cheese, and charcuterie, you also have the option of fresh farm eggs made-to-order.
This is a great way to start the day especially when you’re about to go on an all-day wine tour of some of the best wineries in the world.
HONEST WINE BAR
Kitchen and wine bar at La Maison de Pommard
One of my favorite parts of staying at this hotel was enjoying a bottle of wine from their incredible curated wine list. After all, you are in French wine country!
Feel free to pick your preferred wine from the hotel’s list, complete with prices, and enjoy it at your own pace in the beautiful outdoor garden.
Sipping on a lovely glass of Egly-Ouriet Champagne in the outdoor garden

Casual gourmet meal in the garden
Although the hotel does not provide a dinner service, they do offer what they refer to as a gourmet snack meal.
Pate and pickles
Delicious French cheeses
Yummy charcuterie
Tart
Make sure to reserve this meal! It’s a collection of homemade, local French foods like pate, mouthwatering French cheese, charcuterie, fresh bread, and some salad.
Dining alfresco at La Maison de Pommard
We enjoyed this lovely lighter meal alfresco by illuminated light after our full-day Burgundy wine tour.
Of course, to wash it all down we had to try the wine from the boutique hotel’s wine estate, Domaine de Montille. Incredible!
The Amenities
POOL
Pool at La Maison de Pommard
During the summer months, make sure to take advantage of the outdoor pool located next to the garden. It was a little cool when we went; otherwise, we would have jumped in.

Although we did not take advantage of this amenity, the hotel does offer a complimentary 1-hour session in their sauna on certain days and times of the week. Request in advance.
The Rates
The cost will range from 215 € and up depending on the room type and time of year.
The Reasons for Choosing This Hotel
01- BOUTIQUE HOTEL WITH PERSONALIZED SERVICE
I am really picky when it comes to selecting a hotel. I love smaller boutique hotels that are aesthetically beautiful and inviting with personalized service.
La Maison de Pommard is right in my wheelhouse.
Isabelle, the owner, is an incredibly sweet and kind host.
Let me share an example of her hospitality.
When we were getting ready to do our self-guided bike tour through the Burgundian vineyards, she knew it might rain and insisted we take two of her personal rain jackets just in case.
That extra kindness is what really elevates an ordinary hotel experience to exceptional.
02- LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION!
We love winecations and were super excited to experience some of the prestigious Burgundian wine at its source (#26 on our couples bucket list!).
This boutique hotel is conveniently situated adjacent to some of the best vineyards in the world! One of our favorite wine-tasting encounters was merely a three-minute stroll from our accommodation.
Don’t miss making an appointment at Domaine LEJEUNE.
In addition, La Maison de Pommard is perfectly positioned along the renowned bike path, Veloroute La Voie Des Vignes. Spanning 22 kilometers, this trail meanders through picturesque vineyards and delightful French villages. It’s an absolute must for anyone visiting Burgundy!
Lastly, we were a 5-minute walk from one of our favorite restaurants in France, Auprès du Clocher. Michelin-quality food without the price tag.
Other Hotels We Considered
We also highly considered Hostellerie de Levernois because of their incredible reviews and 1-star Michelin restaurant. We dined there one evening, and the food was incredible.
Ultimately though we wanted to be based in a French town that offered walkability to some dining options and was right on the bike trail.
If La Maison de Pommard is booked, I have listed some other great alternative boutique accommodations in Burgundy.
Also, one thing to note is the hotel offers what they refer to as a refreshing air system in the summer, which cools the room down but does not make it cold.
We were there at the end of August, and it was a little warm. Just something to consider if you are accustomed to ice-cold air conditioning.
Final Thoughts
Our ultimate vacation is enjoying exceptional food and wine while also getting outdoors. If that sounds like you, book a trip to Burgundy and stay at La Maison de Pommard to fully embrace the French joie de vivre lifestyle!
