There are so many Champagne houses. How do you choose which ones are worth visiting? My husband and I love visiting wine regions when we travel (23 so far!), so we were super excited to finally visit the Champagne region on a recent trip. We didn’t have the chance to visit all the ones on our list, but here is our curated list of the 9 best Champagne houses to visit based on either our personal experience or very high tour ratings.

01- RUINART
Reims
→ Chalk Cellar Tour + Tastings: 75€
→ Exceptional Brunch + Tastings: 80€
REASONS TO LOVE: My husband and I have done many wine tours, and Ruinart was one of the most organized and enjoyable wine tours we have done. We visited the historic chalk cellars deep beneath the city of Reims followed by two tastings of both their Blanc de Blancs and Brut Rosé (vintage and nonvintage). My Ruinart Champagne Tour Review has all the details!
02- LECLERC BRIANT
Epernay
→ Introduction Tour + 2 Tastings: 40 €
→ Harvest Tour + Press Visit + 3 Tastings + Local Cheese: 60 €
→ Immersion Tour + 4 Tastings: 75 €
REASONS TO LOVE: We went during Harvest Season and had the unique experience of seeing the staff process the grapes followed by a tasting of 3 cuvées. Leclerc Briant owns the boutique hotel on the famous Avenue de Champagne, Le 25Bis. We stayed here and loved it!
03- TAITTINGER
Reims
→ Tastings x 2 (Brut + Prestige Rosé or Brut Vintage + Prélude Grands Cru): 37€
→ Tastings x 2 at the Table of Thibaud IV + Audio Experience (Brut Réserve + Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs): 60€
REASONS TO LOVE: Taittinger has a great reputation for providing an incredible Champagne tour experience. They normally include a tour of their historic chalk cellars, but they are closed for renovation.
04- POMMERY
Reims
→ Brut Royal Tour (guided cellar tour) + Brut Royal Tasting: 38€
→. Vine to Glass Tour (guided cellar tour) + Tasting of Cuvée de Prestige Louise: 69€
→ Gastronomic Tour (cellar tour + lunch/dinner) + Champagne: 135€
REASONS TO LOVE: You can’t miss the whimsical buildings and the famous chalk cellars. You have the option of visiting Villa Demoiselle, the prestigious home that showcases Art Nouveau and Art Deco.
05- JOSEPH DESRUETS
Hautvillers
Tour + 3 Tastings: 15€
REASONS TO LOVE: This Champagne House has been around since 1888! They still press their grapes with the same old oak press, which you can see during the tour. We enjoyed a tasting of three Premier Cru Champagnes. The Cuvée Coeur de Pinots was our favorite! Very friendly wine staff.
06- GASTON CHIQUET
Dizy
3 Tastings: 15€
REASONS TO LOVE: Reviewers rave about the warm hospitality and very knowledgeable staff at this Champagne house. They produce high-quality Champagne at an affordable price point. We purchased the Champagne Gaston Chiquet Spécial Club 2014 at Trésors de Champagne Boutique wine shop to enjoy back home, which was excellent. I wish I had purchased more.
07- VEUVE CLICQUOT
Reims
→ Discovering Vintage Tour (cellar visit + 2 tastings of Brut Carte Jaune and a vintage cuvée): 55€
→ Clicquot Field’s Class Tour (vineyard visit + tasting of Extra Brut Extra Old): 70€
REASONS TO LOVE: My first experience sipping Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label Champagne was in a treehouse in the African bush celebrating a big wedding anniversary. You can see why this brand has become synonymous with exceptional Champagne, and it’s because of one incredible woman, Madame Clicquot. Discover the history, walk through the chalk cellars, and sip on some of the best Champagne France has to offer.
08- PERRIER-JOUËT
Epernay
→ Art of Chardonnay Tour (history + 2 tastings): 60€
→ Art of Vintage Tour (vintage tastings): 160€
REASONS TO LOVE: The renowned Perrier-Jouët Champagne house is well known for its complex, floral, elegant Champagnes. It has a unique Champagne Bar in addition to a beautiful outdoor terrace to enjoy a tasting on a sunny day. They also serve delicious food pairings for an additional cost.
09- MOËT & CHANDON
Epernay
→ Signature (cellar tour + 2 tastings: Moët Impérial + Vintage): 60€ or Grand Vintage (cellar tour + 2 tastings: Grand Vintage Blanc + Rosé): 75€
→ Terroir Treasures (vineyard visit + cellar tour + 2 tastings of Grand Vintage 2015 + Grand Vintage Rosé 2015): 200€
REASONS TO LOVE: The iconic Moët & Chandon boasts one of the largest networks of underground wine cellars (17 miles!). Professional guides, an exceptional venue, and of course fantastic Champagne.
HOW TO BOOK THE CHAMPAGNE HOUSES
Not all Champagne Houses are easy to book. We love using the French platform Rues des Vignerons to directly book all of our wine experiences in France.
You get instant confirmation of your reservation, and there’s no extra fee for this service! Plus, they tell you if you can book the tour in English. We do not speak French, so we needed to make sure the Champagne tour could be conducted in English.
Plus, I love that you can read fellow travelers’ reviews BEFORE you book the experience. For all of my recommended Champagne houses, I have included the overall Rues des Vignerons rating based on those reviews.
Please note that not all Champagne houses are on this platform. For example, Joseph Desruets is not, so I included their Facebook page which has their contact information to directly book.
Happy sipping!
